"I like the quiet and friendly
environment of the conservation facility.
Working here gives me the opportunity
to work with my hands as well as my
mind, and teaches me valuable skills
that will help me as I pursue possible
museum or archival internships and
jobs. I enjoy especially repairing
the spines of books because this combines
a variety of tasks. Meticulously cleaning
the spine is very meditative; sewing
and gluing the parts of the book helps
me fine tune my handiwork and improve
my dexterity. When I am done with
my work, I must admit that I don't
like cleaning the glue brushes, bcause
the small ones do get rather goopy
and stubborn. They eventually do come
clean though! On the whole, the conservation
facility is a wonderful place to work."
