Creating
the Wellesley Standard Using Dreamweaver
Basic
instructions on using Dreamweaver can
be found in the IS computing pages. The help information
included with the program is also very useful. This document
is intended to provide a quick reminder of how use Dreamweaver
to create the document features required by the "Wellesley
Standard".
Information
on the HTML code used for these
items is also available.
Go
to the Modify menu, then select Page Properties (command
J for Macs, ctrl J for PCs). You will see a dialogue box like
the one below.
Enter
your title into the title box. You can also change background
images/colors and text colors using this dialog box. The left
and top margins control how close your content appears to the
edge of the browser window.
Dogtag:
The
dogtag is generally set in a bulleted list, beneath a horizontal
rule. To create your dogtag, first go to the Insert menu
and select Horizontal Rule. Then click on the bullet list
button in the Properties Inspector (circled in blue). This will
create the first bullet point. Enter the maintainer name and
email address (instructions below) then hit Enter (or Return),
which will create the next bullet.
The
dogtag should end up looking like it does below - each element
on a separate line. This makes it consistent across the pages,
and easy to search for.
To
create the email link (where it says webmaster@wellesley.edu
in the bright blue link color) you should do the following:
Type
the name of the contact, then the address. Highlight
the address portion.
Type
the following in the link box in the Properties Inspector,
replacing username with your own email username: mailto:username@wellesley.edu
Alt
Tags:
These
are also set in the Properties Inspector. Once you place the
image which is to be described, click once on the image. You
will see the image surrounded by a selection box. In the Properties
Inspector, on the right-hand side, enter an appropriate description
for the image in the Alt box.
