What
is the Virtual Catalog? The Virtual Catalog provides a single,
searchable catalog of books owned by participating libraries of the Boston Library
Consortium. Qualified patrons of these libraries may directly request material.

How to use the Virtual Catalog
- On the ILL
main page enter the 16-digit Library number from your One-Card;
it begins 6010...
- Anyone may search the VC by typing "guest" in the login box.
- If you have problems
logging in please contact an Access Services staff member at x3083
or email.
- From the Patron Main
Menu, if you wish to search the catalog, click the Searching/Requesting button. To check the status of requests you have already submitted,
click Review Your Requests.

Searching
- In the Search Menu screen:
- Enter your search term(s).
- Select to perform as
a title, author, subject or ISBN search and click Start.
- Items will be displayed
on the Combined results screen:
- You may sort the
list by author, title or date.
- Click Next Page
at the bottom of the list, to be sure of seeing all results.
- Click on a title
to see more information about the item, including location and availability.
When items are owned by more than one library, use the pull down
menu to select a library. Then click Show Availability.

Requesting
- At any point, you may use
the Request button to initiate a request. If a copy is available
for borrowing, the Request screen will be displayed.
- Fill in the form as directed.
Click Submit Request.
- All requests are rush,
adding a note will slow the request process.
- Use notes
to indicate a certain volume from a set.
- Place a separate
request for each volume needed from a set.
- The Request Confirmed
screen will display the title information and a Request Number.
Use this number when reporting problems.
- You will be

up at the Clapp Library Circulation
Desk or if there is a problem and your request cannot be filled.
- Materials that are not available
through the Virtual Catalog may be available from other libraries, place
a book request using ILL.
