Find the Full Text from the FBIS Online Index

FBIS (Foreign Broadcast Information Service) reports are U.S. translations of foreign news service stories. They originate from a variety of sources and regions.

The FBIS Online Index is an index only; it has no full text or abstracts. However, the Wellesley College Library owns the full text either in paper or in microfiche. Due to copyright restrictions you may not photocopy the reports - you may only take notes. Use the following steps to locate the full text in our Library collection:

  1. Click here to open the FBIS Index in a new window.
  2. Once you have searched the FBIS Index and found a citation(s) you are interested in, note the region name and 3-letter designation, the date, and the page number.
  3. Go to the Library Catalog and type in "FBIS Daily Report" as a title.
  4. Scroll down the resulting list and choose the geographic region that matches the region from your citation.
  5. In the record for that region, make sure the date you need is included in the "Library has" statement in the record. If the dates do not match, look at the "Continues" or "Continued by" lines in hte record to see if there has been a title change.
  6. Once you have the region title that matches the date you need, note the call number listed in the record and whether the format is paper or microfiche.
  7. If what you need is in paper, look for the call number in the SuDocs government documents section; Clapp 2nd floor, past the reference collection, toward the fountain windows. The call number will start with PREX 7.10-[region][number]. Once you find the SuDoc number, look for the date you need.
  8. If what you need is in microfiche, you will find the fiche in the microfiche cabinets on the 1st floor in the microfiche room (narrow room between the Knapp Center and the microfilm shelves). The call number will start with PREX 7.10-[region][number]. Once you find the microfiche SuDoc number, look for the date you need.

If you can't find what you need, please ask at the Clapp Reference Desk.

If you have any comments or suggestions, please email Betty Febo. Thanks!
