Find articles & essays

The following databases provide either full-text articles or citations (information about when and where the article was published).

Once you have an article citation,

  • Use the Find It! @ Wellesley link from each citation to reach one or more electronic journal sources or perform a search in the Wellesley College Library Catalog.
  • If Wellesley does not own the title, you can request it via Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

Web of Science, also known as Science Citation Index Expanded, is very useful in performing interdisciplinary subject searches, from 1965+. Also identifies newer articles, written in 1965 onward, which cite certain authors or key papers from any time period. NOTE: When you finish your session, please be sure to logout.

PubMed indexes articles in all fields of medicine and biomedicine, with abstracts, from the 1950's onward. Links to additional resources (encyclopedia, drug information, etc.) from the National Library of Medicine. PubMed Basics brochure. Short Tutorial.

SciFinder Scholar [Internet Site]. Best for finding chemical journal articles, book chapters, patents, conference proceedings, technical reports, and chemical doctoral dissertations, book reviews, and biographical information. Also traces articles forward in time, from the mid-1990's onward. Email Irene Laursen if you would like help using Scholar.

    • License agreement limits use to the Wellesley College community.
    • Campus use only. Use at Science Library workstations PC16 or PC17.
    • Subscription allows one user at a time.

Science Direct Searchable database of over 2,000 journals, and browsable electronic journal articles from 150 subscribed journals. Strong coverage in biochemistry and related fields. Subscribed journal titles have a green icon.1995+.

Google Scholar. Multidisciplinary coverage of peer-reviewed literature— journal articles, theses, books, preprints, and more. Complements searches in other databases. Advanced Scholar Search Tips.

Other databases may be useful for you, depending on your specific topic and approach. AskUs for some customized suggestions, or request an appointment with the library research liaison.
