Heritage: Civilization & the Jews- has a number of sites provided by PBS. Resources include a learning module on the Hebrews, Jewish life in medieval times, and a section on the history of the Jews in Russia & Eastern Europe.
Holocaust Chronicle: History in Words & Pictures- covers the years 1939-1945. It is also available in book format in the Clapp Reference area (Call #D804.25 .H65 2000).
Holocaust History Project- "The Holocaust History Project is an organization of concerned individuals working together to educate and inform about the Holocaust." Includes a useful FAQ [Frequently Asked Questions] page.
Internet Jewish History Sourcebook- a subset of the Internet History Sourcebooks, edited by Paul Halsall of Fordham University, New York. This collection of public domain and copy-permitted historical texts is well-organized, scholarly, and presented without any advertising.
Jewish Cultural Renaissance in Germany, 1898-1938- provides an online tour from an exhibit done at the Gelman Library, George Washington University. There are annotated images of books, magazines, photographs, and illustrations depicting the rich Jewish culture in Germany from the late 19th century until the Nazis took power in the late 30s of the 20th century
Jewish Encyclopedia- the only free Jewish encyclopedia on the Internet." It contains the complete contents of the oringinal 12 volumes of the Jewish Encyclopedia, which was originally published between 1901-1906. Obviously, there is no information on modern Jewish history; however, many of the articles could be of interest because of the early twentieth century point of view.
Jewish Resources in Boston Jewish Studies Internet Resources- part of Columbia University's Middle East Studies site. Both sites are extensive, with unique features that include Bookstore & Publishers, and an International Directory of Middle East scholars.
Judaism and Jewish Resources- Comprehensive, fairly well organized, and current set of links to popular sites on Jewish culture, politics, and current events. The website author is Andrew Tannenbaum, a software engineer. Recommended.
Kulanu- This word means "all of us" in Hebrew and this site has information about Jewish communities all over the world (e.g. the Lembas of South Africa, the Beta Israel of Ethiopia, Jews in India, China, Cuba, & Uganda).
Maven: the Jewish Portal- Popular emphasis on culture, politics, and current events. Comprehensive, searchable, and categorized by subject. Many of the 9,000-plus links are annotated. Recommended.
MyJewishLearning.com- is a large Judaic-content website created by Hebrew College and Jewish Family & Life Media. Staff members are responsible for seven key topic areas: History & Community, Daily Life & Practice, Holidays, Lifecycle Events, Texts, Ideas & Beliefs, and Culture.
Online Hebrew Tutorial- Instructions are given for Netscape, Internet Explorer, & both PC and Macintosh platforms.
Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life- "seeks to promote a deeper understanding of issues at the intersection of religion & public affairs." The Forum focuses on religion & politics, religion & the law, and religion & world affairs. Check the left-hand side of the homepage for transcripts of recent events, survey resluts, and Pew's press room.
