Britannica Online WC has broad encyclopedic coverage, plus articles and weblinks.

Encyclopedia of Buddhism is a new electronic title which describes the Buddhist world view, basic teachings, different schools, sects, and additionally, sections on Buddhist art, architecture, rites, etc.

ArticleFirst (via First Search) WC has articles &/or abstracts in all scholarly fields, as well as popular culture (1990 +).

Ethnic NewsWatch WC Full text of newspaper articles from ethnic, minority and native presses. Coverage is from 1991 onward.

GenderWatch WC Full-text articles on women's social, religious, political, and health issues. Coverage is from 1974 onward.

Historical Abstracts WC is a database containing articles on world history since 1450, excluding the U.S. & Canada (1954 +).

Infotrac has two databases which could prove helpful. General Reference Center Gold (1980-2004) for business/industry coverage, arts & sciences , sports, etc.from newspapers, reference books, and periodicals. Expanded Academic ASAP (1980-2004) gleans its articles on the arts, humanities, social sciences, technology from scholarly journals, news magazines, and newspapers.

JSTOR WCis a full-text collection of journal articles from the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. First issues are in the collection but not those from the latest five years.

LexisNexis Academic News WC is another full-text source containing news, business, legal, medical, and current events articles.(Yrs. can vary - 1980 +).

MLA International Bibliography (via CSA)WC has articles &/or abstracts on literature, linguistics, film, and folklore (1963+)

Map resources at Wellesley

New York Times Online WC(1851-2001) will be an invaluable primary source for articles dealing with the Korean War. Other newspaper sources will not go back to the early 50s.

Periodicals Index Online (formerly Periodicals Contents Index/PCI) is an index to articles published in over 4,500 periodicals, in as many as 40 languages, and covering topics in the humanities and social sciences.

Project Muse WC is a full-text database with academic journals in the social sciences and the humanities.

Academia Koreana is the Web site of Keimyung University's International Research Institute for Korean Studies.

Introduction to Korean has basic information for learning the language, including quizzes, tutorials, and cultural links.

The University of Aukland has an Internet Tools section on Korea. Click there for access to sites for art & culture, education, history, language & literature, philosophy & religion, plus political studies.

The University of Toronto has a Korean Studies page with access to a number of Korean editions of dictionaries, encyclopedias, and poetry, as well as two literary magazines (Munhak Dongnae, Munhak Sasangsa), a poetry journal (Sian), & a science fiction magazine (WeiRd).

Yuldo.net: a Korean Studies Site has general Web links, as well as links to architecture, film, language & literature, and headline news.

Cultural Resources

East & Southeast Asia: An Annotated Directory of Internet Resources/S. Korea: Contemporary Culture provides information on the country's modern cinema, other performing arts information, and a section on food & drink. Korea: Traditional Philosphy & Religion is another section under this heading for information on major religious philosophies in this country.

Historical Architecture of Asia has pictures and information on interesting buildings throughout Asia and includes some from both North and South Korea.

Horim Museum site features some of its best works and includes works from its archeology gallery.

Korean Folk Collection features information on Korean houses, education, livlihood & handicrafts, religion & ceremonies, festivals & entertainment.

National Museum of Contemporary Art was established "to show the public the desirable direction into which Korean art and its culture should go forward ..."

News Sources

Kidon Media Link: News Sources from Korea, Republic (S. Korea) has keyed information on a number of Korean newspaper publications.

Economics & Politics

Asia Times Online: Korea has a section on the World Economy and the Asian Economy, plus headline stories from Korea and a number of other Asian countries.

Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) has links to election news, chiefs of state, cabinet members, the Constitution, as well as access to a number of news outlets. Please note that the last update was done in January of 2003.

One World: East Asia/South Korea is a portal with an archives section dating back to 2003. It covers news-worthy items,with links for additional information, not only for South Korea, but for North Korea, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Mongolia, Taiwan, and Tibet.
