Advocacy and Awareness
- Americans for Peace Now -
"founded to...build an informed and empowered pro-peace American
public." Explains the relationship of Americans for Peace Now to the
Israeli group, Shalom Achshav (Peace Now), and offers news, position
papers, and Peace Links, which includes a range of Israeli Web sites
promoting peace.
- Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch are two prominent NGOs
whose sites offer current information on human rights and documentation
of their respective campaigns and actions.
- Carnegie Endowment for International
Peace is a private non-profit organization dedicated to advancing
cooperation among nations and promoting active international engagement
by the United States.
- The Carter Center - In
partnership with Emory University, is guided by a fundamental commitment
to human rights and the alleviation of human suffering; it seeks to
prevent and resolve conflicts, enhance freedom and democracy, and
improve health.
- Democracy Now! -
National, daily, independent, award-winning [radio and television] news
program airing on over 140 stations in North America." Hosted by
award-winning journalists, Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez, the program
covers news and public affairs. The War and Peace Report offers news and
commentary on the invasion of Iraq, North Korea, the United Nations, and
related topics.
- The Global Fund for
Women is an international organization focusing on the rights of
women. Issues of concern include domestic violence, literacy, economic
development, and international trafficking in women.
- Global Policy Forum -
"monitors policy making at the United Nations, promotes accountability
of global decisions, educates and mobilizes for global citizen
participation, and advocates on vital issues of international peace and
justice".
- International Crisis
Group - working to prevent conflict worldwide.
- Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe [OSCE] - world's
largest regional security organization. Contains official records,
publications, fact sheets, news releases, and maps.
- Physicians for Global Survival is a
physician-led organization committed to the abolition of nuclear
weapons, the prevention of war, the promotion of non-violent means of
conflict resolution and social justice in a sustainable world.
- Social Development and World
Peace from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. The
Catholic viewpoint of world policy issues. The site provides documents,
legislative news, action alerts, and other links to social teaching.
- War Resisters League - founded in 1923, their mission states "The
War Resisters League affirms that all war is a crime against humanity.
We therefore
are
determined not to support any kind of war, international or civil,
and to strive nonviolently for the removal of all causes of war."

- Arms Sales Monitoring Project -
works for restraint in the global production and trade of weapons,
from the Federation of American Scientists. Links to data on arms sales
and weapons manufacturers.
- Department of Peace and Conflict
Research at Uppsala University. Links to research
papers and hosts a Global
Conflict Database.
- Fund for Peace -
"research and educational organization that works to prevent war and alleviate the conditions that cause war".

- The INCORE Internet Service
on Conflict Resolution and Ethnicity, based in Northern Ireland,
and the Conflict Research
Consortium , at the University of Colorado, are both large compendia
of links to a range of resources on peace, ethnicity and conflict
resolution. There is some overlap.
- Institute for War and Peace Reporting is
an independent educational charity which supports democratisation and
development in crisis zones by providing an international platform,
professional training, and financial assistance to independent media.
Included are news and analysis of conflicts in Southeastern Europe
and the former Soviet Union.
- M.K. Gandhi Institute for
Nonviolence - their mission is to "promote and apply the principles
of nonviolence locally, nationally, and globally, to prevent violence
and resolve personal and public conflicts through research, education,
and programming".
- Institute for National Strategic
Studies [National Defense University] - policy research and strategic
gaming organization that provides timely, objective analysis and
gaming events to senior decision makers and supports NDU educational
programs in the fields of international security and defense policy.

for the Study of Weapons of Mass Destruction. See it's Working

- Peace and Security
through Disarmament describes the work of the UN in promoting
disarmament.
- Course syllabi, bibliographies, and links to many Peace Studies programs
can be found at the Peace Studies Association site.
- Program on Humanitarian Policy and
Conflict Research [based at the Harvard School of Public Health]
- Conducts research into policy making on humanitarian operations
and the protection of civilians in times of war.
- SIPRI (Stockholm International
Peace Research Institute) conducts research on weapons development,
military expenditure, and arms limitation, reduction, and disarmament.
Its site contains research reports and documentation on these areas.
- Terrorism Knowledge Base (from
the National Memorial Institute for
the Prevention of Terrorism) - one-stop resource for comprehensive
research and analysis on global terrorist incidents, terrorism-related
court cases, and terrorist groups and leaders.
- UN Institute for Disarmament Research -
full-text research reports, information about internships.
- The United States Institute for Peace conducts
research to promote peaceful resolution of international conflicts.
The site includes online research reports and policy studies--special
initiatives include virtual diplomacy, the rule of law, and human rights.
- World Peace Foundation - "seeks
to advance the cause of peace through study, analysis and the advocacy
of wise action.". A few reports are available to download.

- Women's Human Rights
Resources is a searchable file of electronic texts--documents,
conventions, reports--from both governmental and nongovernmental
organizations. It is maintained at the Bora Laskin Law Library at the
University of Toronto.
- Bureau of International
Security and Nonproliferation [ISN] - Text
of historic arms control agreements from the U.S. Bureau of Arms Control
and the U.S. Bureau of Nonproliferation (which merged to become the
Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation in 2005).
- Correlates of War
Project from the University of Michigan includes extensive
historical information, listing intrastate, extrastate, and civil wars
for the period 1816-1992.
- The official U.S. State Department Annual Reports on Human Rights
provide very detailed information on human rights practices for each
country.
- Frederick
K. Cox International Law Center War Crimes Research Portal
[Case Western Reserve Law School] - links to Web sites related to international
humanitarian law. Also contains the text of over 120 research memoranda on issues
pending
before
the
International Criminal Tribunal for the Former
Yugoslavia, the International
Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, the Special
Court for Sierra Leone, and the International
Criminal Court.
- HURIDOCS (Human Rights Information
and Documentation Systems, International) - a global network of organisations
concerned with
more effective ways of using information for the cause of human rights.
- HURISEARCH (established in cooperation with Human
Rights Education Associates) - a human rights search engine, it directly searches almost
1500 human rights
