1. Save a copy of your document to the computer's desktop. DO NOT work with a document from a disk or on the network.
2. Open your image in Illustrator
- If the message 'the embedded color profile in this document will be discarded, because your Color Settings are configured for Adobe Illustrator 6.0 Compatible color management' appears, click OK.
3. Set the size of your artboard:
- The artboard represents the size of your image. It is a rectangle bounded by solid lines and it should match the size of your poster. However, the smaller dimension of your artboard should not exceed 34".
a) From the File menu, select Document Setup. A window titled Document Setup will open.
b) In the Document Setup window:
- Choose Artboard from the drop-down menu at the top left hand of the window.
- In the Setup section:
- Size: select [Custom]
- Units: select Inches
- Adjust your image to the desired size.
- The smaller dimension of your image should not exceed 34 inches.
- Select the appropriate orientation - we recommend portrait.
- Make sure the box next to Show Images in Outline Mode is not checked.
c) Once you have entered the correct page size, click OK.
Note: Changing the size of your artboard does not change your image size
3. The page tiling, which is a rectangle with dotted lines, should sit just inside the artboard outline. If you do not see the page tiling, go to the View menu and select Show Page Tiling.

If the tiling outline is big enough, but does not line up with the artboard, try the following:
a) In the toolbar menu, select the Page Tool by selecting the hand tool located in the bottom left corner of the toolbar and holding down the mouse, the Page Tool will appear as an extra option.
b) Use the Page Tool to move the tiling outline so that it is just within the artboard.
4. Save a second copy of your document with a new name to the desktop with the changes made for printing.
If the tiling outline is not big enough, setting the paper size and type will define the page tiling dimensions.
5. Set the paper size and type.
a) Click on the File menu and select Print. A window titled Print will appear.
In the Print window, click Setup… at the bottom of the window.
If a dialog box appears saying 'The Page Setup dialog box is provided by the operating system', click Continue.Highlight the EPSON Stylus Pro 9600 – Large Format Plotter Printer and click Preferences
In the Main tab:
- Media Type: Select Premium Glossy Photo Paper (250) or Premium Luster Photo Paper (260) depending on what is displayed as the currently inserted paper on the top of the plotter.
- Ink: Color/B&W Photo
- Mode:
- Automatic
- Set arrow tab at the Quality end
- Select EPSON Standard (sRGB) in dropdown.
- Check Print Preview
In the Paper tab:
- Paper Source: Roll Paper
- Check Borderless
- AutoCut: Select Normal Cut
- Paper Size: Select a paper size closest to your document size, remembering that the largest dimension will always be 36 inches
- Copies: 1
- Orientation: Landscape
If the paper Size you need is not on the list, do the following:
- Change the Paper Size field to User Defined.
- Create a name for it based on the size. width" x height" So if your new paper size was 36" x 12", that would be how you would name it.
- Under Paper Size, type in the height and width of your document. These numbers are in .01 inches. The width should always be set to 3600 because that is the size of the paper in the plotter.
- Click Save.
- Click the pull-down menu next to the Paper Size: field and select the paper size you just created. It will be near the end of the list.
Remember you will be charged according to the number of linear feet you use. You can save paper and money by rotating your image or combining several smaller images to use the entire width of 36”.
Click OK
Click Print.
6. While still in the first Print window, use the preview of your document in the lower left of the window to double check your image will fit on the plotter paper.
When you are ready to print, click Print.
A new window should popup EPSON Print Preview
View the poster in the preview window to make sure it looks correct.
Click Print at the top
