Book Arts Laboratory - An adjunct to the printed sources for the history of the book is the Book Arts Laboratory, now called The Annis Press, in honor of its donor, Annis Van Nuys Schweppe. Here, students learn to set type by hand and print on nineteenth century iron hand presses. Regular workshops and lectures in the history and practice of letterpress printing, paper marbling, and book binding are offered by Special Collections staff to students, faculty and alumnae. Numerous other gifts and continued acquisitions have made the Book Arts Collection and Laboratory a vigorous center of activity. It is an opportunity for the eye and the hand to be trained together to appreciate the art of the book.
