Letters of Introduction
Students most frequently consult resources not owned by Wellesley at other libraries within the Boston Library Consortium since agreements cover on-site use privileges. If, however, a student has a special need to use a non-Consortium library, application may be made for a letter of introduction. Letters addressed to academic libraries anywhere in the country can be requested. Libraries which accept the letters may grant whatever assistance they wish -- usually it extends no further than on-site use of materials (not borrowing). Harvard often allows only a single day of use and, in addition, requires that the letter of introduction specify exactly what material is need and that it is not available at other local academic and research libraries. Students may fill out an application for a letter of introduction at the Reference Desk in Clapp Library, or may contact the librarians at the departmental libraries for letters to use specialized art, music, or science libraries. |
