The Wellesley College Library Work Redesign Process began in early 1998. In late April of 1998, a committee was formed by the Vice President for Information Services and College Librarian, Micheline Jedrey, from Library staff volunteers. She wanted the entire process to be "staff directed", and hired Maureen Sullivan, a consultant who specializes in library organizational change, to work with her and the staff to facilitate the entire process. The Steering Committee met weekly and documented its work and decisions which were later distributed to all Library staff.
The Steering Committee members:
Joan Campbell, Betty Febo, Eileen Hardy, Dale Katzif and MacKenzie StewartThe Steering Committee Charge:
"Working in consultation with Maureen Sullivan, the Steering Committee will devise a process whereby the Library and Knapp Center staff become engaged in an examination of our services, structures and processes with the goal of designing the work and the organization required to best support the Library/Knapp's service objectives and the educational mission of the College. The process will be staff-directed and will identify ways to draw upon the commitment, experience and talents of all engaged in the work of the Library and the Knapp Center. The Steering Committee will devise ways of communicating effectively with staff to ensure that all are aware of the process and its progress and are clear on its objectives."
