Wellesley College Library
Library Web Group
The Wellesley College Library Web Group provides overall coordination for the development, organization and content of the Wellesley College Library web. It sets guidelines for style (graphics, organization of information, etc.); identifies content needs for the site and communicates those needs to the appropriate work groups; and takes direct responsibility for the Library web site's top-level pages.
Under the coordination of the Digital Library Specialist, the group will be comprised of a representative from each of the Library work groups. Group and/or individual collaboration with the appropriate IS staff or other groups on design, technical issues, software applications, development of local systems, etc. will be necessary at times. In addition, ad-hoc consultation with The Office of the Vice President for Information Services and College Librarian, the Library Management Group, and the College Archives is critical to ensure that the Library Web group’s activities are consistent with the Library's mission, vision and strategic goals.
Will the activity group be ad hoc or ongoing? Ongoing.
What will the output of the activity group be? (May be part of the charge) The development, organization and content of the Wellesley College Library web.
What will the time frame be? (May be part of the charge) Ongoing, with annual review reappointment. Meetings will initially be weekly, gradually decreasing to monthly meetings over time.
Will the activity group be open to all staff or are specific staff needed (due to skills required)? An initial call for volunteers will identify appropriately skilled staff members who show interest in participation. A core group will then be selected by the LMG from these volunteers according to their skills, knowledge and the load of their other responsibilities.
Which, if any, work groups must be represented?
This group requires the participation of the Digital Library Specialist (as convenor and representative of Digital Technologies) and one representative from Access Services, Acquisitions and Cataloging, Library Collections Management, and Research & Instruction respectively. In addition, occasional meetings and consultation with The Office of the Vice President for Information Services and College Librarian, the Library Management Group, and the College Archives are critical.
What is the desirable membership (size and expertise)? Five members - comprised of the Digital Library Specialist and one representative from each of the groups named above.
What special resources are needed to complete this work (equipment, staff, space).
No special resources are currently required.
