April 1998
* Call for volunteers by the College Librarian to form the Steering Committee.

May 4, 1998
* The Steering Committee has its first meeting with Maureen Sullivan to identify the issues and needs to address during the Library Work Redesign Process.

* Professional literature on organizational change is searched, read and discussed

June 15 & 18, 1998
* All Library staff meet to discuss the "ideal" library, organizational issues, and the future.

July-August 1998
* A small resource collection of articles and books related to organizational change begins to come together and discussion sessions are held.

August 1998
* Current workflow analysis questionnaires are requested from each department and/or work unit in the Library with an October 31 deadline.

Aug.-Dec. 1998
* Site visits are arranged with recently "redesigned" information services/library organizations:

Mt. Holyoke College and Connecticut College.

* Call for volunteers and formation of the Vision Statement group.

* Call for volunteers and formation of three groups to collect information - Faculty and Student Patron focus groups and the Staff Outreach Group.

December 1998
* Vision for the Wellesley College Library

* Evaluation of Current workflow analysis questionnaire responses and follow-up.
* Compilations of the Faculty and Student Patron reports, and Staff Outreach survey results are disseminated.

Dec. 1998-May 1999
* All information is taken into consideration to formulate and describe the "Across the Library" organizational model.

* Mt. Holyoke College staff visit Wellesley to talk with library staff about their experiences.

April-May 1999
* Informational staff meetings are held to explain the rationale for the new organizational model, and descriptive documentation is distributed to all Library staff. Additional staff comments are gathered and taken into consideration.

May 19, 1999
* Library staff "choose their work" guided by the "Across the Library" organizational model.

Early June 1999
* Staff assignments and Library Management Group (LMG) members are announced.

June 18, 1999
* Orientation for the LMG.

July 1-2, 1999
* LMG implementation planning retreat.

Summer 1999
* LMG works with staff to plan implementation of the :

October 4, 1999
* DAY ONE of the New "Across the Library" Organization

January 12, 2000
*Library Activity Group guidelines are posted by the LMG

February 8, 2000
*"Working in groups" workshop held for all Library staff with Maureen Sullivan

February 17, 2000
*First Library activity group formed - Library Web Group

Spring 2000

* Evaluate and address HR system changes - Role documents are created for all Library/IS positions to address changing HR needs, "Valuing work @ Wellesley" guidelines and changes in staff roles in the new organizational model.

April 2000

* Preliminary evaluation of the new organizational model's effectiveness - 6 month review.
