OUR SECOND HOME
The
lights in the Science Center at Wellesley College are always on. Elisha Eng: “Everyone lives there at one point in their lives.” William F. Coleman: "The Becky Chang Award - this is a little bitter-sweet. Becky was a student in the early 1980s. She was incredibly shy, and barely spoke to anyone. About two weeks into the semester, her roommate literally kicked her out of their room so that the roommates boyfriend could move in. Rather than talking to anyone about it, Becky moved into the Science Center. At that time the furniture in the lounge had fabric that reached the floor, with a fair amount of empty space below it, and she stored her luggage there. The were several showers in the building at that time, and she ate from Schneider and the vending machines. There were no night custodians, and campus police closed the building at either 11 or midnight. Evidently Becky would hide either under a couch or in a restroom when the police were shutting down, and then she had the place to herself. This went on for more than two months until several of us noticed that if we were here late and then came in early, Beck was always there. I finally spoke with her and we went to the Housing Office and got her another room - a single. Since then I have always jokingly thought of presenting a Becky Chang award to the student who spends the most all-nighters in the Science Center." Where is Becky? Turn on the search light to help police find her. |
