Wellesley College's Body and Soul vocal jazz ensemble is a performing ensemble comprised of up to 8 singers. Rehearsals take place on Tuesdays from 4-6pm. During rehearsals we work on arrangements of jazz standards (for solo or group singing) and improvisation techniques (scat singing). We perform at least twice a semester-once with our accompanist and once with a piano trio. The ensemble can be taken for .5 credit (full year commitment) and auditions are held at the beginning of each semester (see the Calendar page).

Body and Soul was started in 1995 by former faculty member Paul Barringer and alumnae Valentina Morales '99. Lisa Thorson was asked to participate in 1996 as a vocal coach. Since 1998 Body and Soul has been directed by Kris Adams and is accompanied by jazz pianist Gilson Schachnik. Past visiting artists have included Bob Stoloff, Sheila Jordan and Brazilian guitarist Paulo Belenatti. Body and Soul has performed with the Wellesleys' Prism Jazz Ensemble, Synergy Jazz String Ensemble, Fiddleheads, The Wellesley College Glee Club and with Mark Harvey's Aardvark Jazz Orchestra. Most recently, Body & Soul wowed the audience at the Center for the Arts in Natick, MA.
