Tom Zajac, director

Collegium Musicum, December 7, 2005

Voices…
Viols…
Recorders...

Celebrating its 34th anniversary season in 2006-2007, the Collegium, which is directed by Tom Zajac, is an ensemble of singers and instrumentalists open to Wellesley College students, faculty, staff, and members of the greater Wellesley community. Specializing in the performance of music from the Middle Ages to the late 17th century, the Collegium is often joined by faculty and outside guest artists who enrich the ensemble for special projects. Students who participate in Collegium are eligible for ensemble credit. Members of the Collegium enjoy the use of an unusually fine collection of historical instruments.

Separate consort instruction is available in viola da gamba, Renaissance winds, and recorder for both beginning and advanced players on a fee basis. Collegium members are encouraged to take private instruction as well.

Upcoming Concerts

The first performance of the 2006-2007 season will take place December 8th at 7pm in the Houghton Memorial Chapel. The program entitled “A Shared World, Music from the Islamic Presence in Europe” will feature music from the Arab-Andalusian culture of North Africa and music from the Ottoman Empire of the 17th and 18th centuries as well as music from the Sephardic traditions of those areas. Guest artists include Mehmet Ali Sanlikol, Turkish multi-instrumentalist, and Lisle Kulbach and Judith Wachs from the Sephardic ensemble Voice of the Turtle.

Admission to all Collegium concerts at Wellesley is free.
