Experience: A familiar face on the Boston music scene; principal
oboist of the Boston Ballet Orchestra, Boston Classical Orchestra;
plays
english horn in the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra; member of Boston
Modern Orchestra Project; a regular in Emmanuel Music’s Bach
Cantata
series; former principal oboist of the Rhode Island Philharmonic and former
member of Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, where she played for many
years.
Played in the backup orchestras for Rod Stewart, Yanni, and the Moody
Blues, and in show orchestras for “Miss Saigon,” “Camelot,” “South
Pacific,”
and “The King and I.” Received a fellowship to the Tanglewood
Music Center and participated in the Aspen and Spoleto Music Festivals.
Locally, has performed at the Rockport Chamber Music festival,
and was a guest at the Bay Chamber Series in Maine with the Vermeer
Quartet,
at the Monadnock Festival in New Hampshire, and is oboist-in-residence
at Music at Eden’s Edge.
In addition to teaching oboe at Wellesley, Barbara Lafitte is also an ensemble coach for Wellesley's Chamber Music Society.
