Alice Wilkinson

Bio: Alice Wilkinson is a member of the faculty of the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, and previously served as Chair of its piano faculty. She was previously a member of the piano faculty of Duke University. She has performed as soloist and chamber musician numerous times on both the East and the West coasts, including performances at the Gardner Museum, Carnegie Recital Hall and as part of the recital series of the Donnell Library in New York City. As orchestral soloist she has appeared with the Boston Pops, Duke University Symphony, North Shore Philharmonic, Triangle Symphony, North Carolina Symphony (with whom she made her first solo appearance at the age of fourteen) and with other orchestras. A champion of twentieth-century music, Mrs. Wilkinson has commissioned several pieces by composers in the Boston area.
 
Mrs. Wilkinson takes great satisfaction in the accomplishments of her students, many of whom have won scholarships and prizes in competitions, including the Dubbs Prize, NEPTA Scholarships, Massachusetts Woman’s Club Scholarships, the Commonwealth Competition and the Concerto Competition at Longy. Her students regularly give solo recitals and have played concerto performances with numerous area orchestras, including Northeastern Orchestra, Boston University Symphony, Wellesley College Symphony, Longy Chamber Orchestra, Greater Boston Youth Symphony, Salem Orchestra, North Shore Philharmonic, Merrimack Valley Philharmonic and Reading Orchestra.
 
Mrs. Wilkinson received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Juilliard School of Music, where her teachers were Eduard Steuermann and Katherine Bacon. She studied at the Chigiano Academy in Siena, Italy with Guido Agosti. Among her other teachers and coaches have been Eugene Istomen, Arthur Balsam, Russell Sherman and Jacob Maxin.
 
For the past two years Mrs. Wilkinson has presented numerous educational lecture recitals at schools, retirement homes and libraries as part of the Framingham State College outreach program.
