jazz educator Charlie Banacos and violin pedagogy with Magdalena

and American Literature, University of Chicago.
Biographical
Information: Conducts jazz string history and improvisation
clinics for string students and teachers; leads and performs
in workshops
on jazz string repertoire. Conducted improvisation workshops for string
players and teachers at several national music conferences, including those of ASTA and IAJE.
Professional
Affiliations: An active member of the Curriculum Committee
and the Jazz String Caucus of the International Association of Jazz
Educators (IAJE), and former contributor to the IAJE/MENC publication “Teaching
Jazz, A Course of Study.” Also a member of the ASTA
(American String Teachers Association) “Alternative Styles” division. With three decades of experience in various folk, bluegrass and Western
swing groups, she has led her own jazz ensembles, including the Underground
Jazz String Quartet and the Paula Zeitlin Quintet, for the past ten
years.
Recordings:
Her debut CD as a leader, “Walk A Little Slower” (SAZL Music), was
released in 2002. Her latest CD is scheduled for release in Summer 2008.
