Research Interests:

My research interests fall into two parts. The first is concerned with emotion processing in normal adults and in brain-damaged patients. My most recent work in this area has been with patients with Alzheimer's disease, where we have been looking at the ability of patients to recognize emotion in voices, drawings of emotional situations, and videotaped vignettes displaying emotions in facial expressions, gestures and body movements. The second part of concerned with the development and maintenance of body image and weight-related attitudes in adolescent and young adult women; related to this is work on the impact of the transitional event of menarche (the first menstruation) on body image and other aspects of psychosocial development. My most recent work looks at body image and related issues cross-culturally, in diverse groups of college women. Students have been involved in all aspects of my work; of the current papers listed, two are co-authored with students (Purvi Sangani and Amy Benavage).
