Why Neuroscience?: I really love Neuroscience as it's so relevant to our lives. It's also very complex and in my opinion, one of the least understood parts of our body. I also believe that Neuroscience is one of the fields that's getting a lot of attention these days as we've only recently had the technology to be able to closely investigate the brain and begin to understand how it functions and works.

Major: Neuroscience, with a minor in Philosophy
Why Neuroscience?: Neuroscience is the ultimate step in learning who we are and how and why we feel, think, sense, and create. The field is expanding in a million directions at once and new discoveries are announced every day. We have never been closer to understanding one of the most complex systems in nature, the brain. What could seriously be more interesting? I think Santiago Ramon y Cajal puts it best: “To know the brain...is equivalent to ascertaining the material course of thought and will, to discovering the intimate history of life in its perpetual duel with external forces.”

Why Neuroscience?: because i'm interested in how the human experience and human biology influence one another and neuroscience is the key to understanding this and so much more

Position: Fundraising Chair
Year: 2009
Major: Neuroscience
Why Neuroscience?:I think the best thing about the Neuroscience major is that it is interdisciplinary: I get to take classes in biology, psychology, chemistry, and computer science and see how all those fields relate. Not only is it interesting to take a variety of classes, the major is representitive of the science itself: brain regions and neurons, like departments and courses, connect and work together.

why Neuroscience?
I love neuroscience because it's the study of one of the most complex organs and systems in the human body: the brain and the nervous system. What makes it fascinating and exciting is that even the slightest change in the system can affect our everyday actions, thoughts, and emotions. It's the epicenter of our being and we are learning more about it every day, but we still don't fully understand how it works or why it works the way it does.

Why Neuroscience?: It's a relatively new field of science and it's applicable to many other fields of study. Here at Wellesley I like how biology, chemistry, computer science, and psychology courses are incorporated into the major--it provides a wide background for all the different specialties in neuroscience. The department faculty are also really great. They are excited about neuroscience and have a lot of interesting research going on at the college.
