Babson Park, Mass.---The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference announced its 2009 Spring Sport Academic All-Conference Teams this week. Seven Wellesley student-athletes earned nominations this season.
Crew places four on the All-Academic roster. Jacqueline Lewandowski ’09 (Chicago, IL) and Adrienne Topic ’09 (Danville, CA), Kate Spelman ’10 (Scituate, MA) and Lauren Baker ’11 (Bedford, NH) all received the honor. Lewandowski, a Classical Civilization major, makes her third straight appearance on the All-Academic team. Topic, who is majoring in biological chemistry, also earned the award for the third time in her career. Spelman, an art history major, makes her second All-Academic appearance, while coxswain Baker, an economics major, is a first time recipient of the award.
Representing the softball team were Ilana Orloff ’10 (Weston, MA) and Megan Townsend ’11 (Saline, MI). This is the second Academic All-Conference award for Orloff, an economics and mathematics major. Townsend, a biology major, earns the honor for the first time.
Alexis Fischer ’10 (Orinda, CA), a member of the lacrosse team, earns her second-straight Academic All-Conference Award. The junior is a biology major.
Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2008 fall semester; achieved second-year academic status at her institution; and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference consists of ten highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
