Study Abroad Forms and Handbooks
for Students Considering Study Abroad

Rome

GETTING STARTED

Study Abroad Primer (Class of 2011)
Students considering study abroad should first read through the Study Abroad Primer. This document provides students with all the basic information about study abroad, with policies and programs, deadlines and checklists.

Study Abroad Primer (Class of 2010)

Pre-Advising Form
Students who are considering study abroad are encouraged to complete the pre-advising form early in their sophomore year to assist the OIS in offering the most effective and efficient advice.

Proposal To Study Away
Students planning to apply for study abroad programs are required to complete the "Proposal to Study Away" by December 1 if they plan to study abroad at any time during the next academic year (full year, fall or spring).

Petition Application
Students who wish to apply to a study abroad program that does not appear on the list of Wellesley approved programs maintained by the Office of International Study may submit a petition to the International Study Committee.  Petitions are due January 30, 2009  for study abroad any time during the 2009-10 academic year.   Students planning to submit a petition should first meet with the Director of International Study to determine the feasability of the petition and to review the petition process.  Office hours for the Director are posted on the Study Abroad Conference on First Class. The application should be submitted on-line, by clicking here and the recommendation letters (available here) should be sent to the OIS.

Petition for Study Abroad in More Than One Destination
Wellesley College does not permit students to split the academic year between two distinct study abroad programs. Students requesting an exception to this regulation may submit a Petition for Study Abroad in Multiple Destinations.  The petition requires a letter of support from the student's faculty advisor as well as a rationale detailing the academic reasons for the proposed plan of study.

Petition to Study in a Country With a State Department Travel Warning
Wellesley students are not normally permitted to study abroad in a country with a current U.S. Department of State Travel Warning.  Requests for exceptions to this policy are considered on a case-by-case basis by the college's Safety Committee.  Students must provide a letter of support from a faculty member as well as a completed Safety Petition Request.
