Department Tutor Training

This training is designed to:

1. Lead new tutors through the Department Tutor Training Manual.
2. Provide tutoring strategies and tips.
3. Raise questions and discussion points about the learning process.
4. Gather information about you, your thoughts, questions, and concerns.

Every Fall semester, the PLTC publishes a new version of Department Tutor Training Manual. If you have not yet done so, stop by the PLTC (3rd Floor Clapp Library) to pick up this year's version or download one from the PLTC website.

The Department Tutor Training Program has been structured into a series of Training Steps. Training Steps correspond to the number of semesters you have been a tutor (including the current semester). For example, if you are a new tutor, you would complete Training Step 1 since this is the 1st semester you will be a tutor. If you tutored two semesters last year, you would complete Training Step 3 since this is the third semester you will be a tutor. You only need to complete one Training Step each semester.

Each Training Step includes information about peer tutoring, a review of administrative procedures and a document for you to complete and submit to the PLTC > Department Tutor > Completed Training docs conference. The submission of your Training Step document is how the PLTC knows to give you credit for completing training.

TRAINING IS MANDATORY FOR ALL NEW AND RETURNING TUTORS.

STEP 1 - for new tutors

STEP 2 - for tutors who have tutored one complete semester and will begin tutoring their second semester

STEP 3 - for tutors who have tutored two complete semesters and will begin tutoring their third semester

STEP 4 - for tutors who have tutored three complete semesters and will begin tutoring their fourth semester

STEP 5 - for tutors who have tutored four complete semesters and will begin tutoring their fifth semester

STEP 6 - for tutors who have tutored five complete semesters and will begin tutoring their sixth semester
