Hall Safety
-
- Do not prop open residence hall doors. Open doors
provide opportunity for people to enter the halls and put
all community members in jeopardy.
- When you leave your room, even to go down the hall to
the rest room, be sure to lock the door and take your
keys. If you have a roommate, make a pact for safety that
you will both secure your room every time you leave.
- Do not leave items unattended; if you are in your
hall, or anywhere on campus, keep your belongings with
you at all times.
- When you go to lunch, do not leave your books outside
the dining hall; bring them with you and carry them as
you pick up your meal.
- valuables on your person.
- Take advantage of Operation ID. Engrave valuables
with your social security number, and store the serial
numbers in a safe, secure place.
- If you lose your keys or Wellesley OneCard, report
them stolen to the WC Police Department, immediately. We
will deprogram your OneCard immediately, 24 hours a day,
to prevent someone from using it.
- Record credit card numbers, checking account
information, and other important information, in a
locked, safe place.
- Immediately report suspicious persons or activities
to the WC Police Department, x2121 or x5555. Report
people who are hanging around the belongings of others,
people who seem to duck your attention or the attention
of others, or seem to be rifling through people's
belongings. Try to get a full description of the person,
and direction of travel. Do not approach suspicious
people, but report them to the WC Police Department.
- Consider alternatives to storing belongings in the
residence hall trunk rooms. Many thefts are reported
every fall from these areas. Remember many people have
unsupervised access to these areas, and they may be left
open while items are being moved in or out.
