WELLESLEY COLLEGE CLASS OF 1992
FELLOWSHIPS AND AWARDS
Five members of Wellesley College's Class of 1992 have
been awarded major fellowships and awards, including grants
from the Marshall Foundation, the Thomas J. Watson
Foundation, and the Mellon Foundation.
Elizabeth Harmer, a Political Science and English major,
has won the coveted British Marshall Fellowship for graduate
study in political theory at Cambridge University in
England. As an undergraduate, Harmer received the
prestigious Harry S. Truman award in her sophomore year and
was also awarded the Wellesley College Katherine Malone
Scholarship for academic excellence in three consecutive
years.
Elisabeth Mitchell, an Elizabeth Kaiser Davis Scholar,
has been awarded a Mellon Fellowship in the Humanities for
doctoral work in the classics with a specialization in
medieval Latin. She is also the recipient of a Wellesley
College Trustee Scholarship grant for further graduate
study. A married student with three children, Mitchell has
participated for five years in Wellesley's continuing
education pro ram.
Shamsa Rana and Michelle Sheahan have each won a Thomas
J. Watson Fellowship for graduate study and foreign travel.
Rana, a Political Science and Biology major, will study the
position of Pakistani women in Pakistan, England, and
Canada. Sheahan, a Biochemistry and German major, will study
comparative health care systems in Nepal, Poland, and Italy.
Subsequently she plans to pursue graduate study at the Johns
Hopkins School of Public Health and School of Advanced
International Studies.
Heather Morris, a German Studies major, has received both
a Padagogischer Austauschdienst Teaching Assistantship for
Germany and a Fulbright. Foundation Travel Grant. She will
teach American Studies and English to high school students
in Germany. Her later plans include graduate study in the
United States with the goal of a career in international
business.
