More than 1,200 parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, partners and children of Wellesley students from 38 states and the District of Columbia -- and from as far away as Bermuda and Japan -- traveled to campus for this year's Family Weekend held Oct. 22-24. Family members had the opportunity to attend regularly scheduled classes as well as dozens of special events that provided an opportunity to experience the Wellesley that students live every day. During the weekend, members of the Parents Council also gathered to discuss their goals for the year. Chaired by Tony Kerbs, the Council is a volunteer group of 45 parents of alumnae and current students who work together to grow and steward the Parents Fund and to help communicate the College's fundraising needs, priorities, and goals to the parent constituency. To learn more about the Parents Council as well as the everyday College activities and issues in which your student may be involved, read on. This site also can help connect you with links to College calendars, academic and administrative departments, back issues of the Wellesley College Illuminator and more. |

My travels frequently allow me to seek out, meet and speak with parents of students and alumnae and, ironically, it is they who most often cue me to the continuing charge of parents to help sustain this great institution of learning. Dedicated professors, outstanding facilities and strong support systems prepare our daughters well for adaptation to the challenges of the 21st century and world citizenship. Personally, as a father and a professional, I am acutely aware that women may often need the competitive edge of being better educated, more thoughtful and insightful and mentally tougher. I'm certain that no college in the country better prepares any daughter to exceed the norm and successfully make her way in the life she chooses. Financial support by parents has been an unrivaled Wellesley tradition that preserves the opportunity for students now and hereafter to have the same quality grounding and enlightenment that my daughter has. It is also a smart investment. It helps our daughters after graduation as the "street" value of a Wellesley degree appreciates along with the stature and reputation of the school. My friends and colleagues on the Parents Council work to help fulfill this promise for all, now and in the future. We need all the help we can get. Please honor your daughter and Wellesley by calling a Council member in your region to find out more about our enterprise both here on the web and by getting in touch with a Council member in your area. Sincerely, Tony

What is the Parents Fund?
The Parents Fund is led by the Parents Council, a volunteer group of both parents of alumnae and parents of current students who are strongly committed to Wellesley and to helping it achieve its mission. Council members act as ambassadors of the College, communicating its priorities and goals to the larger constituency of current and prospective parents, and parents of alumnae. They also serve as representatives of the parent community back to the College. As volunteer leaders, Council members provide guidance to the College in determining campaign strategies for parent solicitations and they support the strategy through personal donations and solicitation of gifts from other parents.
