CHILEAN POET AND WELLESLEY COLLEGE PROFESSOR MARJORIE AGOSIN HONORED

Professor of Spanish Marjorie Agosín has won the 1995 Latino Literature Prize for poetry awarded by the Latin American Writers Institute. The prize was awarded for her book, Toward the Splendid City (Bilingual Press/Editorial Bilingue, 1994).

The Latino Literature Prize was created in 1992 to recognize the high quality of work being produced by Latino writers in the United States. Winners are selected in two categories, poetry and fiction, by the Institute which is housed at Eugenio Maria de Hostos Community College/City University of New York.

Earlier this year, Marjorie Agosín was awarded the Letras de Oro 1995 Prize for poetry, presented by Spain's Ministry of Culture and the North-South Center of the University of Miami. The Letras de Oro was awarded for her forthcoming book, Noche Estrellada. The Letras de Oro and the Latino Literature Prize are the two highest honors presented for works by Latin American writers.

Marjorie Agosín is a resident of Wellesley, Massachusetts.
