The planned activities for
the week of 12/17/2001 are as follows:
- Remedial excavation in remaining Southern Wetland area adjacent to
main dewatering sump.
- Ongoing Paintshop Pond dam and wall restoration. Stone mason may begin
mobilization.
- Southern wetland, wetland south of Paintshop Pond, and Waban Brook
subgrade preparation and peat installation.
- Continue dewatering from temporary dewatering sump.
- Placement of fill and grading for the water quality swale located
on the south side of the consolidation area berm.
- Continue managing soil in the consolidation area.
- Manufacture additional sand borrow or select borrow.
- Placement and compaction of semi-pervious fill adjacent to Paintshop
Pond dam (weather permitting).
- Miscellaneous excavation of borrow soil and filling.
- Miscellaneous excavation of contaminated soil (if encountered).
- Continue subgrade grading on small portion of east field area to receive
woven geotextile and sand borrow.
- Continue installation of woven geotextile fabric layer and 6-in. sand
borrow layer on eastern field to prepare for HDPE liner installation
(east field only).
- Install HDPE geomembrane and geocomposite drain over the east field.
- Ongoing management of partially-dewatered sediment from Northern Shoreline/Western
Cove dredging in consolidation area.
- Continue re-dredging cells that were recontaminated by the trailing
curtain.
- Dredge cell V3 in accordance with Department of Environmental Protection
request.
- Treat soil/pigment (using ferrous sulfate as an amendment to the calcium
polysulfide reagent).
- Mix in dry materials to reduce moisture content of treated material
before excavating and relocating to consolidation area.
- Continue health and safety air monitoring.
Activities conducted during
the week of 12/10/01 include:
- Remedial excavation in remaining southern wetland area adjacent to
main dewatering sump.
- Ongoing Paintshop Pond dam and wall restoration. Poured concrete pier
footing for precast arch bridge sections, and other sections of wall.
- Proposed Southern wetland subgrade preparation and peat installation.
- Shut down main dewatering sump and removed equipment. Continue dewatering
from temporary dewatering sump.
- Placement of fill for the water quality swale located on the south
side of the consolidation area berm.
- Continued management of soil in the consolidation area.
- Miscellaneous excavation of contaminated soil (if encountered).
- Miscellaneous excavation of borrow soil and peat and filling where
needed.
- Subgrade preparation filling and grading on east field area.
- Installation of woven geotextile fabric layer (addition to engineered
barrier configuration) and 6-in. sand borrow layer on eastern field
to prepare for HDPE liner and geo composite drain installation (east
field only).
- Relocation and disposal of select drum contents in the consolidation
area; empty drums staged outside consoilidation area for off-site management.
- Treated soil and pigment (using ferrous sulfate and/or calcium polysulfide
reagent).
- Mixed dry material with treated soil to reduce moisture content to
facilitate handling.
- Load out treated and tested soil.
- Completed re-dredging area NS-2.
- Began re-dredging area NS-1.
- Continue health and safety air monitoring.
