The planned activities for
the week of 12/31/2001 are as follows:
- Remedial excavation in remaining southern wetland area adjacent to
main dewatering sump (remediation work is nearly complete).
- Stone mason to mobilize.
- Southern wetland, wetland south of Paintshop Pond, and Waban Brook
subgrade preparation and peat installation.
- Continue dewatering from temporary dewatering sump.
- Continue with remedial excavation in the area adjacent to G3 at the
southeast corner of the IT treatment area.
- Continue managing soil in the remaining consolidation area (west field
area).
- Manufacture additional sand borrow or select borrow.
- Placement and compaction of semi-pervious fill adjacent to Paintshop
Pond dam (weather permitting).
- Miscellaneous excavation of borrow soil and filling.
- Miscellaneous excavation of contaminated soil (if encountered).
- Backfilling in Lake Waban for capping.
- Begin installing screw piles for boardwalk through wetland.
- Install geocomposite drain over the east field.
- Pour bridge abutment for bridge over Waban Brook.
- Continue installing drainage blanket, stone, and filter fabric on
exterior of retaining walls downstream of dam.
- Continue to treat soil/pigment (using ferrous sulfate and/or calcium
polysulfide reagent).
- Mix in dry materials to reduce moisture content of treated material
before excavating and relocating to consolidation area.
- Continue placing sand and gravel cap near mouth of Upper Waban Brook
- Continue health and safety air monitoring.
Activities conducted during
the week of 12/24/01 include:
- Remedial excavation in remaining southern wetland area adjacent to
main dewatering sump.
- Ongoing Paintshop Pond dam and wall restoration. Installed double
arch bridge sections.
- Waban Brook subgrade preparation and channel construction.
- Continue dewatering from temporary dewatering sump.
- Placement of fill and grading for the water quality swale located
on the south side of the consolidation area berm.
- Continued management of soil in the consolidation area.
- Continued manufacture additional sand borrow.
- Ongoing management of partially-dewatered sediment from northern shoreline/western
cove dredging in consolidation area.
- Miscellaneous excavation of borrow soil and peat and filling.
- Resizing and off-site transport of felled trees/logs.
- Continue subgrade grading on small portion of east field area to receive
woven geotextile and sand borrow.
- Continue Installation of woven geotextile fabric layer and 6-in. sand
borrow layer on eastern field to prepare for HDPE liner installation
(east field only).
- Install HDPE geomembrane over the east field (nearly complete).
- Removed temporary sheetpile cofferdam installed in front of PSP dam
and installed water control berm to allow equipment access.
- Removed main dewatering sump equipment.
- Continued to treat soil and pigment (using ferrous sulfate and/or
calcium polysulfide reagent).
- Mixed dry materials to reduce moisture content of treated material
before excavating and relocating to consolidation area.
- Load out treated and tested soil.
- Completed dredging grid cell V3
- Mobilized to mouth of Upper Waban Brook for placement of sand and
gravel cap and began placing sand & gravel cap as approved by DEP.
- Haley & Aldrich collected additional samples from cells F2, G3, and
H3. XRF results showed sediment concentrations in these cells to be
above the remedial goal for lead.
- Continue health and safety air monitoring.
