The planned activities for the week of 11/19/2001 are as follows:

  1. Continue Waban Brook remedial excavation between IT treatment area and Route 135.
  2. Ongoing Paintshop Pond dam and wall restoration.
  3. Proposed southern wetland subgrade preparation and peat installation.
  4. Remedial excavation in remaining southern wetland and Waban Brook adjacent to main dewatering sump.
  5. Operate soil screen plant to manufacture topsoil. Spread loam. Manage soil in consolidation area.
  6. Complete dredging Area WC-1 using the barge to transfer dredge spoils to shoreline.
  7. Install slope stabilization berm in area NS2.
  8. Complete dredging of NS2 and begin redredging areas that were recontaminated by the trailing curtain.
  9. Collect additional verification samples in areas previously dredged.
  10. Treat soil and pigment, using ferrous sulfate as an amendment to the calcium polysulfide reagent in effort to improve treatment success rate.
  11. Load out treated and tested soil.
  12. Continue health and safety air monitoring.

Activities conducted during the week of 11/12/2001 include:
  1. Site clearing and grubbing along Route 135 for remediation of area to north of IT treatment area.
  2. Paintshop Pond dam and wall restoration (footing excavation and preparation, concrete pouring, rebar installation, construction dewatering, etc.).
  3. Remediation in uplands and proposed wetlands area to south of former Waban Brook.
  4. Completed dredging area WC-2 in northern shoreline/western cove.
  5. Began dredging area WC-1. Dredged spoils were loaded into barges for primary dewatering. Maxymillian Technology is using a barge equipped with a sump to dewater dredged spoils prior to transport to the shoreline. Barges are then transported to shore where material is excavated from barge loaded into trucks and placed in the uplands.
  6. Relocation of Lake Waban dredge material to the consolidation area.
  7. Continued to collect "post-dredge" confirmatory samples to evaluate if any recontamination of dredged areas has occurred.
  8. Collected three sediment samples in the vicinity of WSC-40 to verify the extent of sediment concentrations in excess of 400 mg/kg lead.
  9. Spreading and grading of contaminated materials within the consolidation area.
  10. Subgrade preparation in the proposed Southern Wetland. Relocation of clean peat to the Southern Wetland to prepare for peat installation.
  11. Manufacturing of topsoil using screen plant.
  12. Placing topsoil on slopes around the proposed wetlands south of Paintshop Pond.
  13. Excavation of borrow soil from Borrow B and C (small area to south of Paintshop Pond used for compensatory wetland mitigation).
  14. Construction of a section of proposed Waban Brook
  15. Operation of main dewatering sump.
  16. Cleaning of granite wall adjacent to Paintshop Pond dam.
  17. Continue health and safety air monitoring.
  18. Continued to treat soil and pigment.
  19. Took delivery and began using ferrous sulfate as an amendment to the calcium polysulfide reagent in effort to improve treatment success rate.
