The planned activities for
the week of 10/29/2001 are as follows:
- Remedial excavation in uplands east of Paintshop Pond and south of
Waban Brook likely to be completed by the end of week. Also continue
with southern wetland remedial excavation. This leaves the remediation
of remaining portions of Waban Brook, uplands north of the IT treatment
area, and remaining portions of the southern wetland to be completed
in the following weeks.
- Start field hockey field exploration program to delineated the extent
of additional remedial excavation in the field area.
- Continue placing, grading, and compacting contaminated fill brought
into the consolidation area.
- Continue concrete work in the vicinity of Paintshop Pond dam.
- Begin backfilling portions of the southern wetland.
- Possibly mobilize a soil screen plant to make select soil types/gradations
for clean fill operations.
- Continue managing northern shoreline/western cove dredge material
for drying in Uplands or directly in the consolidation area if workable.
- Continued operation of multi-media and bag filter treatment system
at the main dewatering sump.
- Treat soil.
- Excavate treated and tested soil.
- Continue health and safety air monitoring.
Activities conducted during
the week of 10/15/2001 include:
- Dredging in Lake Waban and managing material in uplands decant area
or in the consolidation area.
- Continued uplands remedial excavation adjacent to the southern wetlands
(e.g., former settling lagoon area).
- Continued uplands remedial excavation adjacent to and downstream of
the Paintshop Pond dam for purposes of installing concrete footings
and wingwalls; uplands remedial excavation in the vicinity of former
paint factory; uplands remedial excavation south of treatment area.
- Continued excavating contaminated southern wetland peat (piling and
load-out for placement in the consolidation area).
- Continued grading and compacting contaminated material placed into
the consolidation area.
- Continued concrete work in vicinity of Paintshop Pond dam.
- Continued operation of multi-media and bag filter treatment system
at the main dewatering sump. Changed out filter media in remaining two
vessels of the multi-media filter system.
- Constructed supplemental treatment area for IT immediately south of
existing IT treatment area.
- Treated soil.
- Excavated treated and tested soil
- Continue health and safety air monitoring.
