Recent photos of the Paintshop Pond project site:

Considerable work has taken place on the site of the former Henry Wood's paint factory site since construction began in the spring. The following photos, taken from mid-July through mid-August give an overview of some of the progress.

Aerial views from the south (left) and west (right) taken 7/28/01. The scope of the project can be seen from these views. Nearly all of the trees in the project area have been removed, and Paintshop Pond has been drained. The orange silt curtain in the northern cove of Lake Waban can be seen. Part of the northern wetlands has been excavated, and the clean pad is being constructed to the south of the Distribution Center. The grey drainage blanket of the consolidation area can be seen with darker soils placed against it. The asphalt from the former tennis courts can be seen near the center of the western view (next to the current soccer field).

These photos show the construction of the clean pad onto which the contaminated and treated soils will be placed. The left view, taken in mid-July, shows the synthetic lining of the drainage blanket, covered with gravel, along the northern slope. The pool in the Keohane Sports Center can be seen in the background. The right photo, taken in early August, shows the further construction of the consolidation area. Thousands of cubic yards of wetland peat have been added to the consolidation area.
