Dora Carrico-Moniz
Dora Carrico-Moniz is an assistant professor of chemistry at Wellesley College and has been a member of the Wellesley College faculty since July 2007. She received her B.S. degree in chemistry from Purchase College in 1999, and her Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Yale University in 2004. From 2004-2007, she was an Anna Fuller Fund postdoctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology working with Professor Barbara Imperiali in biological chemistry.
Prior to coming to Wellesley, Carrico-Moniz was actively involved in the education of undergraduates in the classroom and in the laboratory, serving as an organic chemistry teaching assistant and as a tutor for Yale College. During her postdoctoral studies at MIT, she provided research guidance to graduate students and participated in MIT's high school outreach program.
Carrico-Moniz is an organic chemist by training and she is teaching organic chemistry this academic year. In the future, she looks forward to teaching other chemistry courses such as General Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry, Organic Synthesis, Medicinal Chemistry and a seminar in Drug Discovery.
Carrico-Moniz's independent research is focused toward the design and synthesis of molecules of medicinal importance. The Carrico-Moniz lab employs multi-disciplinary research techniques directed toward the development of novel anticancer and antiviral agents, as well as sensitive methods to detect protease activity. Carrico-Moniz is a member of Sigma Xi and the American Chemical Society.
