Kristin F. Butcher

Kristin Butcher photoKristin F. Butcher is an associate professor of economics at Wellesley College. She has been a senior economist in the economic research department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. As a member of the microeconomic team, Butcher has conducted research in the areas of labor economics, immigration policy and health economics.

Butcher's research has been published in numerous journals, including the Journal of Health Economics, the Industrial and Labor Relations Review, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management and the American Economic Review.

Before joining the Chicago Fed in 2002, Butcher was a program officer in human and community development at the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in Chicago. In that position, she developed and oversaw grants in the areas of economic research and policy, workforce development, income security, and criminal justice. Prior to that, she held positions as assistant professor of economics at Boston College, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and served as a visiting assistant professor at Princeton University.

Butcher received her B.A. in economics from Wellesley College, an M.Sc. in economics from the London School of Economics, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in economics from Princeton University.
