Rebecca B. Bedell
Rebecca Bedell is Assistant Professor of Art History at Wellesley College where she has taught since 1988. She received her B.A. from Wellesley and her M.A. and Ph.D. from Yale University.
Her scholarly research has centered on nineteenth- century American art. Her award-winning book The Anatomy of Nature: Geology and American Landscape Painting, 1825-1875 was published by Princeton University Press (2000). Her current projects include “What Happened to Sentimentality?” a study of the reaction against pictorial sentimentality in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
At Wellesley, Professor Bedell teaches courses in the Writing and American Studies programs, as well as in the Art department. Her courses have included American Art, Modern Art, Nineteenth-Century European Art, Introduction to American Studies, Breaking Boundaries: the Arts of the United States and Mexico, and Disney and American Culture.
