Joel
Krieger
A scholar of comparative and international politics, Joel Krieger,
born in 1951, earned his B.A. in political science from Yale University
in 1973, and his Ph.D. in government from Harvard University in
1979. The Norma Wilentz Hess Professor of Political Science
at Wellesley College, he has also been a visiting professor at
Columbia University and New York
University and a research fellow at Cambridge University and Harvard
University. Professor Krieger has received research grants, fellowships, and
contracts from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department
of Labor, the Council for European Studies, the American Council
of Learned Societies, and the Commission of the European Communities.
Krieger is the author and editor of numerous articles and books
on British and European politics, political economy, comparative
social policy, the role of new information and production technologies
in national competitiveness, and the political and policy challenges
of globalization. He is a leading specialist on British politics and political economy.
Krieger’s major works include,Globalization and State Power: A Reader (Pearson Longman, 2006); Globalization and State Power: Who Wins When America Rules? (Pearson Longman, 2005); with David Coates, Blair’s War (Polity Press, 2004); British Politics in the Global Age (Polity Press and Oxford University Press, 1999); and, Reagan, Thatcher and the Politics of Decline (Polity Press and Oxford University Press, 1986). Krieger also served as editor in chief of the Oxford Companion to Politics of the World (1993, 2001).
Krieger’s recent scholarly publications include, "Review Essay. The Political Economy of New Labour: The Failure of a Success Story?" New Political Economy, Vol.12, No.3, September 2007, pp.421-432; “After Empire,” Oxford Handbook of British Politics (In press).
Krieger is the Board Chair of Global Policy Forum (GPF). Global Policy Forum monitors policy making at the United Nations, promotes accountability of global decisions, educates and mobilizes for global citizen participation, and advocates on vital issues of international peace and justice.
