Kristina N. Jones
Kristina Niovi Jones is Director of the Wellesley College Botanic Gardens (WCBG) and Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences. She holds a B.S. in Biology from Stanford University, and a PhD in Ecology from the University of California, Davis. Her primary research and teaching interests are plant ecology, particularly plant-animal interactions, conservation biology, and speciation. As WCBG Director, her interests have broadened to include invasive species management, wetland restoration, green roof systems, and management of greenhouse collections. Prior to returning to Wellesley in 2005, she held teaching and/or research positions at Middlebury College, Wellesley College, Harvard University Herbaria, and the Rocky Mt. Biological Laboratory.
Kristina is active in plant conservation efforts: she serves on the Regional Advisory Council for the New England Plant Conservation Program (NEPCoP), and has written and reviewed rare plant conservation plans for the New England Wildflower Society. Her research on the evolutionary ecology of plant-insect interactions has resulted in many publications, including one used as a textbook example of evolutionary analysis. She serves as a reviewer for NSF, USDA, and several journals, and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Rocky Mt. Biological Laboratory.
In the mid-1990's Kristina helped found the Wellesley Whiptails ultimate frisbee team, and in the deep past was a member of three different ultimate teams that won national championships. Now she just tries to keep up with her three children.
