Sharon Leary Leavitt
Sharon Leary Leavitt is a Senior Instructor in Biological Science Laboratories at Wellesley College. A member of the faculty since 1992, Sharon Leavitt has taught laboratories in cell biology, cell physiology, immunology, microbiology, microbial physiology, and organismal biology. In addition to teaching the laboratories, Instructor Leavitt has also developed new student experiments for the cell biology and cell physiology laboratories and is one of the tutor coordinators for the Biological Sciences Department.
Sharon Leavitt received a B.S. degree in medical technology from Daemen College and an M.S. in medical technology with a specialization in clinical chemistry from the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNYB).
Prior to her career at Wellesley College, Ms. Leavitt worked in the private sector for a Johnson & Johnson division that developed, produced, and marketed clinical laboratory instrumentation. She was a Senior Instructor at the company’s Customer Training Center, where she taught medical technologists and pathologists how to use and maintain the complex clinical laboratory instruments that their institutions had purchased. As a result of her performance in this position, Ms. Leavitt received the P.A.C.E. Maker Continuing Education teaching award from the American Society of Medical Technology in 1978.
Her non-science activities include traveling, quilting, sewing, knitting, decorating, and reading murder and medical mysteries.
