Daniela Rivera
Born in Santiago Chile, she got her BFA from Universidad Católica de Chile in 1996. After that she worked as a Professor in the Art School of the same university and in the Design School of Universidad Mayor of Santiago. She received her MFA from SMFA/ Tufts University (’06) where she imparted classes and graduate seminars as a teaching fellow. Daniela spent the summer of 2006 as a Gund fellow at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
She started showing her work in Chile and around Latin America in the late 90s. Her work dealt primarily with the representation of the body and questions related to cultural identity. After arriving in the US, her work suffered a dramatic change, turning to examine the notion of cultural identity in relation to body and place as a source of definition. She has recently worked on a series of installations exploring the relationship between viewer and painting. Some exhibitions include: “Boston Young Contemporaries,” 808 Gallery; “Un-occupied ground, MFA, Boston; “Negotiating Painting,” Tufts University Gallery/ Aidekman Arts Center, Medford, MA.; “Skin Matters”, Spanish Cultural Center, Santiago, Chile (2002), “Pellagra,” Cultural Center of Experimental Art "La Perrera", Santiago, Chile, “Corporal Lessons,” Animal Gallery, Santiago, Chile (2001); “Fragments N°2”- “El lugar sin límites”, Museum of Arts of Lima, Peru (2001); “Teorética,” San José de Costa Rica.(2001), Museum of Arts, Guadalajara, Mexico; “Martirologio N# 2,” Museum of Contemporary Art, Santiago, Chile (1999).
