Dorothy Webb

Dorothy Webb has been teaching Physical Education classes and directing the volleyball intercollegiate program for the past 11 years at Wellesley College. Her teaching specialties include fitness and activity classes such as Strength Training and Tennis.

Prior to her arrival at Wellesley College, Webb spent three years at Brown University earning her M.A degree in English, with a specialization in Literary Criticism. While at Brown, Webb served one year as the Assistant Coach and two years as the Head Coach of the intercollegiate volleyball program.

Under Dorothy Webb's guidance, the Wellesley College volleyball program has improved from a sixth-place conference finish in 1993, to a third-place national finish in 1998, and a fourth-place national finish in 2001. In six of the last seven years, the team has finished in the top eight nationally. The program won six consecutive conference titles and five straight NCAA Regionals. Webb has been the NEW 8 and NEWMAC Conference Coach of the Year for six straight years and has been the NCAA Regional Coach of the Year for five consecutive years. In addition, the team has not lost a single match to any of its 60+ New England college volleyball opponents for five straight years.

As an undergraduate at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, Webb played four years of Division I volleyball. In 1985 and 1986, Webb's college team won back-to-back Division I National Championships. She still holds the NCAA tournament record for digs. Webb was named a USVBA All-American at the Open Nationals in 1994, and she was drafted and played in three professional leagues since graduating from college: Major League Volleyball, the Women’s Professional Volleyball Association, and the Bud Light Four-Person Volleyball League. In 1996, Webb received the Rick Pierce Sportsmanship Award, an award granted to one male and one female volleyball player in the New England Region each year.

In December of 2002, Webb presented at the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her presentation was titled, “Principles of the Perfect Practice.”
