Wellesley College senior Heather Eaton of West Chester, Pennsylvania, has been awarded a Fulbright Grant for study in Japan where she will focus on how law shapes the socioeconomic position of women. A double major in political science and economics at Wellesley, Ms. Eaton plans to attend law school upon her return from Japan in preparation for a career in international law with an emphasis on Japanese-American relations.
She is the daughter of Leonard and Jane Eaton of West Chester, and a 1992 graduate of Westtown School in Westtown, Pennsylvania.
At Wellesley College, Ms. Eaton won two Ishibashi Grants for Summer Study in Japan in 1994 and 1995 which enabled her to study language and culture in Kyoto and in a remote area of central Honshu. She is vice-president of the Japan Club and tutors Japanese at two secondary schools.
The Fulbright Scholarship Program, named for former Senator J. William Fulbright, promotes global understanding by both sending American students abroad and bringing foreign student to the United States. The program celebrates its 50th year in 1996.
