WELLESLEY,
Mass. -- Wellesley College has announced the appointment
Andrew B. Evans as vice president for finance and treasurer.
A senior higher education administrator for nearly two
decades, Evans was selected after a comprehensive national
search. He is currently vice president for finance at
Oberlin College, a position he has held for nearly nine
years.
“In
Andy Evans we have found a proven leader ready to take
up the challenges inherent in this vital role at the
college,” said Wellesley President Diana Chapman
Walsh in making the announcement. “He is person
of integrity and character who listens and communicates
exceedingly well with everyone and has a strong understanding
of the academic mission. I look forward to working with
him as a member of my senior management team.” Evans
will join the Wellesley College community on August 19.
At
Oberlin, Evans has overseen the college’s administrative
and financial operations and has provided support to
the president in strategic financial planning. Prior
to this role, he served for 10 years as associate dean
for management, finance, and development at the Fletcher
School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. In that
role, he supervised Fletcher’s fiscal planning,
budget, fund raising, personnel, physical plant, equipment
and computer facilities. He joined the Fletcher School
following a 10-year tenure with the U.S. Agency for International
Development, with a career appointment as a foreign service
officer, serving in Washington, D.C., and in postings
in Indonesia and Afghanistan, among other locations.
He earned a B.A. degree from the College of William and
Mary, in Williamsburg, Virginia, and an M.B.A., with
a concentration in information systems, from George Washington
University.
Wellesley
College has been a leader in liberal arts and the education
of women for more than 125 years. The College's 500-acre
campus near Boston is home to 2,300 undergraduate students.
Wellesley has an annual budget of approximately $178
million and an endowment value of approximately $1.1
billion. Some of the college's distinguished alumnae
include former Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright,
United States Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Madame
Chiang Kai-shek, and broadcast journalists Cokie Roberts
and Diane Sawyer.
