Wellesley Team Wins National Mock Trial Tournament
-- A team of eight Wellesley students finished first place out of 40 teams from around the US in last month's American Intercollegiate Mock Trial Tournament, a victory made even more impressive because this is only the team's second year of existence. In addition to the team's accomplishment, team captain Jessica Hass won an individual award for Best Attorney and first-year student Julia Reed won an individual award for Best Witness, portraying a police detective. More information on the team, its victory, and coaches can be found at http://www.wellesley.edu/PublicAffairs/Releases/2002/041902.html.

Alums Celebrate Wellesley In Washington, D.C. -- Approximately 600 alumnae and guests from the Washington, DC, area gathered on April 29 to connect -- and reconnect -- with each other and the College and to celebrate The Wellesley Campaign. Held in Union Station on Capitol Hill, the event featured opening remarks by Cokie Boggs Roberts '64, a campus news broadcast by Lynn Sherr '63, remarks by President Walsh, and live and taped testimonials by alumnae, students, and faculty members. All alumnae from Maryland, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia were invited to the celebration, and guests ranged from the class of 1934 to 2001.

As of the end of April, nearly $263 million has been raised toward the college's goal of $400 million. More information about The Wellesley Campaign is available at http://www.wellesley.edu/Resources/contents.html

Crew Team Co-Captain Wins Hoop-Rolling -- Tasha Teutsch, a biological sciences major from Atlanta, Georgia, was the winner of Wellesley's 107th annual hoop-rolling competition on April 27. In keeping with tradition, Teutsch was met at the finish line by President Diana Chapman Walsh (herself the winner of the 1966 hoop-rolling contest), who presented Teutsch with a bouquet of purple flowers (purple being the Class of 2002's color). About 200 seniors rose early on a crystal clear Saturday morning to take part in the race. Unlike most of the rollers, Teutsch had been up for hours by the time the race began; she and her teammates had already had an early morning practice. Class of 2002 Celebrates the Last Day of Classes -- In keeping with a Wellesley tradition, members of the class of 2002 celebrated the last day of classes yesterday by decorating the Science Center and many of its inanimate "inhabitants." The students worked into the night Tuesday, so that faculty, staff, and students would be greeted with a blaze of purple, the class color, on Wednesday morning.
