Nurturing
the spiritual lives of students and helping them to begin, renew
or continue their journey of faith is the mission of the our
chaplaincy. The college years are crucial in the development
of young people and their religious lives; consequently Wellesley's
Protestant Chaplaincy has established a ministry which is engaged
in one of the most encouraging and exciting periods in our life
together as a faith community. "God is Love," the perpetual Flower
Sunday theme, is what Henry Durant hoped women at Wellesley would
recognize and experience during their time in this beautiful
setting. We are committed to this vision. On Sunday mornings,
we gather for worship to celebrate our faith in God and Christ.
The Protestant Chaplaincy offers opportunites for counseling,
spiritual direction, Bible study, retreats, Holy Day services
and other religious and social gatherings.
Each
year the Protestant Christian Chaplaincy offers special times
of worship for the Wellesley community. We hold our four Advent
services to celebrate the anticipation of the birth of Jesus.
We also hold special services during Holy Week, such as Maundy
Thursday Footwashing Service, Good Friday Tenebrae Service and
a Sunrise Easter Service, as well as our regular Easter morning
worship service.
In addition to the above, we hold Ecumenical services with the Newman
Catholic community such as Christmas Vespers, Ash Wednesday, and Good
Friday. Members of the Protestant Christian Chaplacincy also have the
opportunity to participate in multi-faith events at Wellesley including
Flower Sunday, Baccalaureate, the Multi-Faith Council, and Dinner & Dialogue.
