The study of religion in a liberal arts college constitutes an integral part of the humanities and social sciences. Recognizing religion as an elemental expression of human life and culture, past and present, the department offers courses in all of the world's major religious traditions.

Faculty members approach their areas of expertise from a number of different intellectual perspectives including textual, historical-critical, philosophical, and social scientific.
