Freeman Hall

outside of Freeman Hall

Freeman Hall was built in 1953, shortly after its neighbor Bates. Freeman was named in honor of Wellesley's second (and youngest) president, Alice Freeman Palmer, whose ashes are kept in Houghton Memorial Chapel. Her likeness can be found in the Chapel, as well as a lovely painting in the Reference Room of the Clapp Library.
