Calculators - College Financing Calculators The College Board Website offers a number of calculators that students and parents can use for free. They include: Expected Family Contribution (EFC) Calculator The website also contains information on a variety of pertinent subjects such as savings and financial aid; a description of how the financial aid system works; paying for college; and scholarships. U.S. families can use the calculators to view a number of financial scenarios. They are designed for families of dependent students in the United States, not families living abroad or independent students. This is particularly true for the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) Calculator. This calculator is also of limited value to self-employed families with business cash flows. As always, the accuracy of the information provided determines the accuracy of the results. Finally, the Office of Student Financial Services uses a somewhat different set of institutional policies than the College Board’s national EFC Calculator in determining eligibility for financial aid.
