Students enrolled at least ¾ time are required by Massachusetts State law to enroll in the Student Accident and Sickness Insurance Program. The policy is a comprehensive plan designed to meet the needs of Wellesley students. All students enrolled in courses at Wellesley College may see a physician, nurse practitioner, or nurse at the Health Services office without charge; however, charges are incurred for certain procedures, treatments and laboratory tests. The Student Accident and Sickness Insurance Program covers most of these charges and all inpatient charges in the College infirmary. Insurance coverage for the 2008-09 academic year is effective from August 15, 2008 to August 14, 2009.
Information about the insurance program is mailed to the students each year and is also available on the web at www.gallagherkoster.com
The insurance rate for 2008-2009 is $1,385. The fee for insurance appears on the first bill of the Fall semester.
If you are covered by other comparable insurance and do not wish to participate in the College plan, you may waive the coverage. To do so, you must complete an on-line waiver form. You should receive a confirmation upon successful submission of the waiver form. Coverage cannot be waived if the on-line waiver form is not submitted by August 1, 2008.
All Davis Scholars are assessed Insurance. A waiver must be completed to waive this charge.
Financial responsibility for all medical and dental expenses rests with the student and her family. Wellesley College does not assume financial responsibility for injuries incurred in instructional, intercollegiate, intramural, or recreational programs. The College carries an NCAA policy to provide limited supplemental coverage for students injured while participating in intercollegiate athletics under the auspices of the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics.
See below for information sent to all students regarding insurance:
2008-2009 Wellesley College Enrollment in the Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan is required for all students registered for at least 75% of full-time credits. To read the details on this law, visit www.state.ma.us/dhcfp. click “Qualifying Student Health Insurance Program” and review the information on this page. If you currently have adequate health insurance, you can waive enrollment. But first, please review what’s included in the Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan:
Not all plans provide adequate coverage such as out-of-state Medicaid plans, Commonwealth Care, certain HMOs and managed care plans. Be sure to check with your insurance company before waiving coverage. Students who live beyond a 200 mile radius or who have restrictive out of state managed care insurance coverage or who anticipate participating in intercollegiate, club or intramural sports programs are encouraged not to waive the student insurance plan. International Students can not waive coverage unless they are currently enrolled in a plan of comparable coverage through a U.S. based insurance company Need To Know More?
